My name is Lisa Melanie Martinez. I am a senior at William Paterson University, majoring in political science with a minor in legal studies. This is my last semester of my undergraduate career and I am interning in our nation's capital, Washington DC. Living and breathing in the political atmosphere of Washington DC has been a life changing experience for me. Being an intern in Washington DC has opened the doors to an endless possibility of expanding my knowledge in US politics and policymaking. I had met so many countless professionals, who shared to me their wisdom and knowledge pretaining to my political ambitions. Aside from being an intern, I roamed through the historical neighborhoods in DC. These are the same streets that famous faces of  our nation's history walked through. These people, such as presidents and civil rights leaders, transformed the nation through their vision and leadership. The historical monuments,  gigantic statues of past presidents, unique architecture of historical buildings, and Smithsonian Museums expanded my understanding of our great nation's past.  I am proud to say that I lived in this district by being a part of history during the groundbreaking government shutdown and the November elections. This website will feature all my stories and pictures throughout the fall of 2013 in Washington DC as student of the Washington Internship Institute program.
